Freeze the Gum Solid
Fill a resealable plastic bag with ice cubes and seal it tightly. Place the ice bag directly over the wad of gum and press down firmly. Leave it in place for 10 to 15 minutes until the gum turns completely hard and brittle to the touch.

Crack and Scrape the Hardened Gum
Remove the ice bag and immediately slide the flat, dull edge of a butter knife under the edge of the hardened gum. Pry upward gently to shatter the gum into chunks and break its bond with the carpet fibers. Work from the outer edges toward the center to avoid spreading the material.

Immediately hold a vacuum hose nozzle directly over the shattered gum fragments to capture them before they warm to room temperature. Run the nozzle across the surrounding carpet to ensure no tiny frozen pieces escape into the pile.
- • All solid debris and hard gum flakes cleared from the surface of the carpet.
- • Only a thin, residual tacky film remains on individual fiber strands.
- • Using a vacuum roller brush head, which can crush soft gum fragments deep into the bristles.

Dissolve Residual Sticky Film
Pour a small amount of isopropyl rubbing alcohol onto a clean microfiber cloth until damp. Blot and gently pinch the remaining sticky fibers between your cloth-covered fingers, pulling upwards to lift the residue. For stubborn traces, gently brush with an old soft toothbrush dampened with alcohol.
