๐ Step-by-Step Guide (5 Steps)
Declutter and Clear Working Surfaces
Remove all loose objects, clutter, and textiles from tabletops, counters, and furniture. Place dirty linens into the laundry hamper and temporarily store decorative items in a sorting bin outside the room. Leave all surfaces completely bare so every square inch can be addressed.
- โข All tabletop surfaces, nightstands, and mantels are completely empty
- โข Bedding stripped or chairs cleared of throws and pillows
- โข Cleaning around decorative items instead of removing them
- โข Moving clutter from one surface to another in the same room
Perform High-Level Dry Dusting
Attach a dry microfiber head to an extendable pole and work clockwise around the room. Dust ceiling corners, crown molding, ceiling fan blades, curtain rods, and upper door casings. Direct dislodged dust downward toward the floor rather than sweeping it into the open air.
- โข Ceiling corners and molding are free of cobwebs
- โข Ceiling fan blades show no visible gray dust layer on top edges
- โข Using a wet cloth on heavy dust, which creates sticky mud streaks
- โข Moving the duster rapidly and flicking airborne dust around
Wipe Mid-Level Fixtures, Glass, and Walls
Mist a microfiber cloth with a mild castile soap solution and wipe picture frames, window sills, light switch plates, and door handles. Clean mirrors and interior window panes using a 1:1 water and vinegar spray, wiping in uniform S-patterns. Use a soft detail brush to remove grime from switch crevices and window tracks.
- โข Mirrors and window glass are streak-free under room light
- โข Door frames, switch plates, and sills show uniform matte finish with zero fingerprints
- โข Spraying cleaner directly onto electrical switch plates or framed art instead of the rag
- โข Wiping glass in random circles which leaves visible swirling streaks
Detail Furniture, Baseboards, and Low Trim
Vacuum upholstered furniture using an upholstery tool, making sure to get beneath cushions and along seams. Wipe down all wooden furniture legs, chair rails, and baseboards using a damp, well-wrung microfiber cloth. Scrub stubborn scuffs along the baseboards using a pinch of baking soda on a damp cloth.
- โข Sofa and chair crevices are free of crumbs and lint
- โข Baseboards show a crisp, bright line with no accumulated dust ledge along the top edge
- โข Soaking wood surfaces with excess water
- โข Skipping the narrow gap behind heavy furniture
Deep Vacuum and Mop Floors
Vacuum the entire floor surface thoroughly using slow, overlapping strokes, edge-to-edge and under furniture. Prepare a warm water and castile soap bucket, wring the mop out until it is barely damp, and mop toward the room exit. Allow the floor to air dry completely before returning cleared items to their places.
- โข Floor is uniformly clean with zero visible grit along edges
- โข Surface dries to an even, residue-free sheen without standing footprints
- โข Mopping yourself into a corner with no exit route
- โข Using a soaking-wet mop on hardwood or laminate floors
