๐ Step-by-Step Guide (7 Steps)
Clear and Prep the Space
Remove all loose items from countertops, the shower ledge, and the floor. Take out bath mats, towels, and the trash can, then shake mats outside. Pull shower curtains aside and clear everything off the vanity surface.
- โข Empty countertops and bare shower ledges
- โข Floor clear of rugs, hampers, and trash bins
- โข Cleaning around items instead of removing them completely
- โข Leaving wet bath mats sitting on the floor
Dry Dust Top to Bottom
Use a dry microfiber cloth or duster to wipe down ceiling corners, exhaust vents, light fixtures, and mirror tops. Sweep or dry-vacuum hair and loose debris from the dry bathroom floor. Removing dry dust first prevents muddy streaks when wet cleaning later.
- โข Vents and light fixtures free of cobwebs
- โข Floor surface clear of hair strands and loose dirt
- โข Spraying liquid cleaners onto heavily dusty surfaces
- โข Skipping the exhaust fan grille
Apply Pretreatment Cleaners
Squirt toilet bowl cleaner under the rim and allow it to coat the interior bowl. Spray all-purpose bathroom cleaner across the shower walls, tub basin, and sink basin. Let the solutions dwell for 5 to 10 minutes to dissolve soap scum and mineral deposits.
- โข Blue or green cleaner coating the inside of the toilet bowl
- โข Visible wet foam or spray film covering shower walls and sink
- โข Wiping off cleaning spray immediately without letting it dwell
- โข Using toilet bowl cleaner on chrome or metal fixtures
Scrub and Rinse Shower and Tub
Use a scrub brush to work in circular motions from the top of the shower walls down to the tub floor. Scrub grout lines, corners, and the drain surround thoroughly. Rinse all surfaces completely with warm water from a detachable showerhead or cup, then pull a squeegee down walls to prevent water spots.
- โข Shiny tile walls with clear grout lines
- โข Dry, streak-free glass or tile after squeegee pass
- โข Rinsing with cold water instead of warm water
- โข Failing to rinse chemical residue from the tub floor
Clean Vanity, Faucets, and Mirror
Mist glass cleaner onto a microfiber cloth and wipe the mirror in an S-pattern from top to bottom. Scrub the sink basin, faucet base, and handles using an all-purpose cleaner and cloth, paying close attention to grime around the drain. Buff metal fixtures with a dry cloth until they shine without water spots.
- โข Streak-free, reflective mirror surface
- โข Polished, shiny chrome faucet and clean sink basin
- โข Spraying glass cleaner directly onto the mirror edges where it can damage the backing
- โข Using the same cloth for the toilet and the vanity
Scrub Inside and Sanitize Outside of Toilet
Scrub inside the toilet bowl with the toilet brush, reaching under the rim and deep into the trap. Flush to rinse the brush, closing the lid slightly over the handle to let it drip-dry. Spray disinfectant over the tank, flush handle, seat, lid, and base, then wipe down from the cleanest top area to the dirty base.
- โข Pristine white interior bowl surface
- โข Glossy, dust-free toilet tank, seat, and base pedestal
- โข Wiping the dirty base before the clean tank or seat
- โข Putting a dripping wet brush directly back into its holder
Wash the Bathroom Floor
Dip your mop into clean warm floor cleaner solution and wring it out until damp, not soaking wet. Start at the farthest corner of the bathroom and work backwards toward the exit doorway. Allow the floor to air dry completely before returning rugs and the trash can.
- โข Uniformly damp floor surface drying without puddles
- โข No footprints or dirt trails leading out the door
- โข Mopping yourself into a corner with no exit route
- โข Leaving the floor overly wet, leading to slip hazards
